Over Labor Day weekend, we traveled deep into the rolling mountains of Hot Springs, VA where we visited the ever-popular Omni Homestead Resort. The resort’s landscape, views, and hiking trails made our vacation surreal, but the food made it heaven. Two weeks later and we’re still drooling at the thought of our meals at Les Cochons d’Or, which is located on the Hot Springs main drag, privately owned and not affiliated with The Homestead.
You all know by now that we love seafood, but emerging as one of our favorite food genres is French cuisine. Les Cochons d’Or (The Golden Pigs) offers “American dining with a French twist.” High quality service and brilliant food plating and tastes presents a fine dining experience, but the rustic wood bar and taste of local ingredients reminds you that you’re in the relaxed, casual countryside.
This place is somewhat pricy, but after one bite, you quickly realize the price is right. We decided to see if they live up to their name (literally) and try their pork tenderloin wrapped in pancetta. To sum it up…. we might not try pork anywhere else because we’re pretty sure you can’t get any better than this. Executive Chef Kyle is not afraid to show off his southern roots – using his wood burning grill he knows how to put the TENDER in tenderloin, and the JUICY in ….. well his steaks are really juicy – check out the pork below.
And thanks to their French-inspired perfect portions, you’ll likely have room for desert. Don’t leave without trying their Vanilla Creme Brûlée. It’s difficult to perfect this classic French desert, and they nail it.
P.S. This place is serious about their wines. The chef’s wife and co-owner, Crystal Krieger, is an Advanced Sommelier. At the time she passed her exam, she was 1 of 325 in the world!
Oh, and what restaurant gives a personalized letter for an anniversary?! No seriously – check it out below – these guys are awesome!!!
