We woke up one Saturday morning craving French toast, and had one stale bagel and no bread. What to do?! Make French toast bagels…what else? This was a spur of the moment decision and it turned out delicious. We only had a little bit of cream cheese left and one banana (man we needed groceries!), so we decided to make a banana cream cheese to go on top of the toast. This is a fun, unique take on classic French toast and it will be sure to impress, and with only five ingredients, it impresses your wallet too.
We made the classic french toast mix of four large eggs, 1 tbs. of cinnamon and 1/4 cup of 2% milk. We then cut our bagel in half and soaked each side in the mixture for 2 minutes each. This is to ensure the bagel soaks up as much of the moisture as possible, giving you a soft, fluffy French toast! You can use any bagel variety you want, although we suggest using poppy, sesame or plain.
We then heated our non-stick pan on medium (add 1 tbs. of butter if using a regular pan), added the bagel halves and cooked on each side for about 3 minutes, or until golden brown.
While the bagels were cooking, we made our banana cream cheese. We used one whole banana, cut it into pieces and put it in our blender. We then added 2 oz. of Less Fat Plain Philadelphia Cream Cheese and mixed it all up until it was creamy. If you need a little more moisture, add small splashes of water and keep mixing until it becomes the consistency you want. We love our Nutri Ninja below from Amazon! So easy. 🙂
We cooked up some Taylor Pork Roll to go along with the French toast and banana cream cheese (great choice, but you can use any meat you want). Pour the banana cream cheese over the bagel and enjoy this sweet and savory breakfast!
