If you’re in the Annapolis, Maryland area on a Wednesday night this summer, you absolutely need to stop by the first block of West Street for dinner. The restaurants located on this block all take part in the inaugural “Dinner Under the Stars,” setting up tables outside on West Street’s historic brick road and serving cuisine in the summer breeze. With dazzling overhead lighting and fantastic live instrumentals that had people dancing on their feet, this dining experience feels reminiscent of open air cafes in Paris or piazzas in Italy.
We had the pleasure of dining this particular Wednesday at Luna Blu Ristorante, an Italian favorite of ours. Their Wednesday special is half-price bottles of wine, so naturally we picked a Pinot Grigio while we enjoyed fresh bread with olive oil and black pepper.
Mollie had the Tortellini alla Romana, which was tri color cheese tortellini with mushrooms and sweet Italian sausage in a creamy parmigiano sauce. Moment of silence for this dish… Seriously, this was one of the best pasta dishes we have had in a long time. It was perfectly buttery and savory. The light wine was the perfect complement to this rich tortellini. Maris opted for the Fettuccini con Vegetial, which was complete with mushrooms, spinach, diced tomatoes, roasted red peppers and artichoke hearts – all married together effortlessly in a white wine sauce. YUM!
Might we add that Luna Blu’s menu is surprisingly affordable, making for an easy choice on a date night. They also have a Wine & Pizza pairing menu on Thursday nights that we are absolutely going to try. The Pizza con Salasiccia Arrabiata is calling our name!
The following restaurants are taking place in Dinner Under the Stars: Luna Blu Ristorante, El Toro Bravo, Tsunami Sushi Bar and Lounge, 49 West Coffeehouse, Winebar & Gallery, Stan and Joe’s Saloon, Cafe Ole Annapolis, and Rams Head Tavern Annapolis, and Chesapeake Brewing. We made our July reservation in May, so we lucked out with a spot. There are rumors that the reservations are completely booked at each restaurant, but fear not, there will always be last minute cancellations (so make sure you get on a wait list!). Without reservations, you can grab a cold brew at Chesapeake Brewing Company, drink their Beat Army Golden Lager and enjoy some of their pub grub. We are hoping Dinner Under the Stars becomes an annual attraction 🙂
